During the bus ride from the airport to the hotel, I wrote down a few initial observations of Delhi life:
I. A woman wrapped in a red sari holds her baby in one arm while gesturing for food donations with the other as our tourist bus waits at a stoplight.
II. A little boy throws a rock into a tree hoping to knock nuts loose from the branches. After each throw he collects the fallen nuts and eats them.
III. A group of men crowd together on a mat in a shaded part of the sidewalk, leaving their sandals on the hot cement as they enjoy a midday conversation, a brief reprieve from the unforgiving heat.
